Your body was designed to move. But between long hours sitting, repetitive movements, physical activity and the demands of everyday life, it's easy to develop tightness, stiffness and restrictions that make movement feel more difficult than it should.

Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a gentle, assisted stretching approach that focuses on improving flexibility, joint mobility and freedom of movement.

Unlike traditional stretching, where you stretch your own muscles, Fascial Stretch Therapy involves a trained practitioner guiding your body through carefully controlled movements and stretches.

At Ryan Ridge, certified Fascial Stretch Therapist Steve Meldrum brings a personalized, whole-person perspective to your movement and wellness goals.

What Is Fascia?

Fascia is a continuous network of connective tissue found throughout your body. It surrounds and supports your muscles, bones, joints, nerves and organs.

Think of fascia as an interconnected web that helps support your body's structure while allowing different tissues to move and glide.

Fascia plays an important role in movement and flexibility. When tissues become less mobile or sensitive, you may experience feelings of tightness, stiffness or limited movement.

Because the body's tissues work together, improving mobility often involves looking beyond one individual muscle.

How Does Fascial Stretch Therapy Work?

Fascial Stretch Therapy uses a combination of assisted stretching, gentle traction and controlled movement to explore and improve your available range of motion.

During a session, Steve carefully guides your arms, legs, hips, shoulders and other areas through comfortable stretching positions.

Rather than forcing a stretch, the emphasis is on working with your body's natural movement and respecting its limits.

Sessions may include:

  • Gentle, practitioner-assisted stretching
  • Controlled joint movements
  • Comfortable traction techniques
  • Breathing and relaxation
  • Stretching positions tailored to your mobility goals

Every session is adjusted to your individual needs, comfort level and movement abilities.

How Is Fascial Stretch Therapy Different From Regular Stretching?

Traditional stretching generally focuses on individual muscle groups and often requires you to perform the movements yourself.

Fascial Stretch Therapy takes a more assisted, whole-body approach.

Your practitioner supports and guides your movements, allowing you to relax while different muscle groups and joints are stretched in a controlled manner.

This approach can be particularly appealing if you find stretching on your own uncomfortable, difficult or hard to perform consistently.

Who Can Benefit From Fascial Stretch Therapy?

Fascial Stretch Therapy may be suitable for people with many different lifestyles and activity levels.

Whether you're an athlete, an office worker, an active senior or simply someone who wants to feel less restricted in everyday movement, assisted stretching may offer a useful addition to your wellness routine.

You don't need to be athletic or naturally flexible to get started.

The approach is adapted to where your body is today, with the goal of helping you work toward greater movement confidence and comfort.

A Whole-Person Approach at Ryan Ridge

Movement is only one part of well-being. At Ryan Ridge, Steve Meldrum combines his experience in Fascial Stretch Therapy, Reiki and fitness accountability coaching to offer complementary wellness services.

Each service has its own purpose, but together they reflect a shared philosophy: supporting the person, not simply focusing on an isolated area of tightness.

One body, one mind, one approach: all of you, working together.

Rediscover the Freedom to Move

Movement is part of nearly everything we do, from walking and reaching to working, exercising and enjoying time with family.

Taking care of your flexibility and mobility is an investment in how you feel and function every day.
